COMMITTEE MEETING

27th November 2025

COMMITTEE MEETING

Trident House, Webber Street, London SE1 8QW

Our committee meets at least four times each year and is always glad to receive suggestions and information from our members

The committee met on November 27, 2025, some members in person at the Council of Lutheran Churches office in London and others on Zoom.

The Membership Secretary reported a significant increase in membership, with 14 students joining from the UK, and one each from USA and Nigeria. In addition two more non-student applications had been received, one from UK and the other from USA. Our National Coordinator in Norway reported that he is working with their National Church Council to find ways of engaging younger people with ecumenical issues.

Meanwhile, the Society’s initiative ‘Young Voices’, aimed at the under-35s, has got off to a good start. The first online meeting has been very successful with participants from UK, Germany and Nigeria. One from the USA will join another time. They plan to meet six times a year to consider creative ways of prayer, have Bible studies and theological discussions and, most importantly, meet regularly for fellowship and getting to know each other better. Students in particular can feel isolated and ‘Young Voices’ offers a safe space for mutual support.

Preparations for the Annual Meeting on Saturday March 7th, 2026, at St John’s Wood Church, London, are well in hand. Registration forms will be sent to all members with the January issue of The Window.

Arrangements for the conference in Hamburg, September 11 to 15, 2026, are progressing well, and an exciting programme is nearing completion. The Conference Registrar reported that the conference is already half full, so people wishing to take part should return their registration forms quickly.

A new Safeguarding Policy was approved and can be found on the ‘About Us’ page of the Society’s website www.anglican-lutheran-society.org One trustee has agreed to be the Deputy Safeguarding Lead but we are urgently seeking a suitably experienced person to take on the role of Designated Safeguarding Lead.

Some time was spent on considering ways in which the Society might more effectively achieve its aims, and on doing some succession planning to ensure the Society’s future.

The next committee meeting will be online on 26th January 2026. Let us know if there is any issue you would like the committee to consider by using the ‘Contact Us’ page on this website.
